just a reagular observation thingy regarding festivals.
I live in a country that celebrated many type of festivals, most major ones are celebrated in my country. for instant Christmas (25 december), New Year (January 1), Chinese New Year.. and many more. if Guildwars were to have festival celebration for all the festival in the world, it would be great. And , like my usual self, that is not the point of this post.
The point:
ever not being able to join in the fun and games of Guildwars Festival celebration? I know I have, many times infact, and have to entrust my friends to collect hats and what not for me. Lucky for me I have such a friend I can trust. For those not so lucky.... well, you will miss all the hats.
Why did I ask my friend to do that favours for me? because I am away celebrating the festivals. And very often, I have to be where there's no internet access nor any computer in-sight! And not everyone have the luxury of owning a laptop + a desktop computer at the same time. owning one already make a huge hole in my pocket.
the question:
Do you all, strangers think about celebrating Guildwars festivals
1) for a longer period then it normally is like one week before and one week after (or a suitable amount of extention)
2) earlier date then actual festival time (timing)
3) later date then actual festival time (timing)
I think of this because, i am thinking if i am always away during festival, all I can get will be hats hats hats more hats. And I am going to never get to play the quests/mission that gets me the mini polar bear .... so what do you think should we petition for a different timing for festival celebration?
thank you for reading. have a nice day.

No, I don't get to celebrate it in GW at all. I cannot be there when the GW is celebrating the festival, because I have to be away. and I suspect many people have to be as well, during festivals, you "go home for the holidays" and you visits friends and family which make it impossible to be at your computer. plus this would be great for Anet's employee, no need to work during holidays. Have the festival celebration earlier or later.

They did the right thing during the Dragon Festival when they added an NPC for about a week after the holiday was over that would make the same exchange of tokens for a hat.
I don't see how copying that across all holidays would be hard, or would be bad.
That's all that needs done really, if your main complaint is about the masks.

I like that they usually make the bigger festivals last more than a weekend or so. That way if you do have to be away for a bit, you can hopefully join in a little.
Ive missed halloween and the chinese new year the past 2 years as they occur during term time and Ive only just got a computer that can handle GW. Yay! now i can get hyped up on sweets and booze and do nine rings and wear scary costumes and drink pumpkin juice and and and and !!

They should keep the 'late reawrds' way from now on.
Some people has to travel and stay with family and such during such events, it would be fair for them.

I didn't celebrate Wintersday... but when I go to the ''hat dude'' he has both of the hats available. I like that change.

its technically a GW-event and not a real world one. Wintersday may = Christmas and Canthan New year = chinese new year but they just happen to be the main festivals. Cantha needed one due to everyone gettin all pissy over the Tyria love

This is a pretty good point. One of the problems I noticed with GW events is that they are held right in the middle of the real world celebrations. For instance, the Halloween event always happens on Halloween day, Wintersday always happens on New Years Day, and so on.
I'm not much of a party goer so this has never been a problem for me, but a lot of people, like the OP, prefer to go party in the real world, not sit around at a computer and /dance the night away. Heck, even in my case, for Halloween these past years I've always been sitting in my statuesque death costume scaring small children, and then giving them candy. But throughout that I'm always glancing at my watch to keep track of the next MKT event so I don't miss out on the festivities in GW as well.
I would be in favor of them bumping the actual festival finale celebration, in the case of real world holidays happening during the middle of the week, to that weeks Sunday. That way the real world celebration might have ended, but us GW players get to have a special continuation.

What's the point of having a hat? They're pretty useless and you rarely see anyone wearing them again after the event is over.

Not everyone attends the festivals solely for the hats.

I like when the festival 'event' doesnt fall on a weekend (halloween was one)....I do have a large family and get togethers for holiday stuff usually happens on weekends (not to mention weekends are the only time many of the people I hang with are also free---non-gw-players.) I also like the jade orb idea---gather 250 and just give them to the festival guy and poof you get the hat even though you couldnt make it to the 'event'; gathering the orbs shows that you cared unlike this wintersday where the hat guy gave out hats to everyone regardless of whether or not they did any part of the fun and games.

QFT.
/signed for maybe an alternate date for the finale of events so they don't coincide with times that people are usually away.

I asked for more or less the same thing myself on another thread.
Having the festival a week before or after the real life holiday/festival would seem a better idea.
Then if your traveling to see friends or family over the holiday you don't miss anything.
Don't know why arenanet didnt think along those lines themselves, I mean its just common sense really.

To borrow from legal jargon:
Asked and answered.
Anet and common sense sometimes have a tumultuous relationship, though, to be fair, if the festivals where timeshifted, there would be an equal number complaining about it. Sometimes Anet just can't win.
Most logical would be to extend the festivals to being at least 2 weekends or 9 days

Completion. You go to the hat maker and see a list without gaps. Beautiful.
